It’s hard to believe that a year has passed since the first Hivemapper Dashcam prototypes were manufactured, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of decentralized mapping technology. The numbers speak for themselves:

- 4.6 million unique km mapped so far (7% of global roads)

The Hivemapper Dashcam’s original production run is nearly sold out, so if you haven't already, now is the time to secure one.
We expect tight inventory over the next few months, but it won’t last forever — we've purchased inventory for another production run that's scheduled to begin this fall.

Refining the Dashcam Experience
We decided to design our own dashcams in order to deliver high-quality data and a seamless user experience, which we’ve learned are critical to decentralized mapping and very difficult to deliver with a smartphone app.
The Hivemapper Dashcam is the core building block of that strategy, with the Hivemapper Dashcam S model providing additional 4K video capabilities and external storage for personal use. If you’re excited to dive in, read more about our dashcams here.
Although the Hivemapper Dashcam S is shipping now, we plan to optimize the Hivemapper Dashcam with app updates and over-the-air firmware updates for years to come. We’re still just scratching the surface of what this platform can do, and we're exploring hardware changes such as adding a compass to further improve positioning.
Here are our primary areas of focus:
- Better Positioning: Through the fusion of GNSS and IMU data, we’re striving for increased accuracy. Improved positional accuracy is paramount in ensuring that your dashcam provides top-tier map coverage.
- Privacy Enhancements: Keeping with our commitment to your privacy, we’ve introduced personal and network privacy zones to make your dashcam smarter about where it maps.
- Functionality at the Edge: Object detection and processing are increasingly being moved to the edge, protecting privacy and reducing the amount of data that users need to upload.
- App Stability and Reliability: In our tireless effort to make the Hivemapper experience better, we’re constantly working to enhance the stability and reliability of transmitting your map data through the Hivemapper app.
